Every year, a select group of VFW Posts are presented with All-American Post status. Only the top 25 divisional VFW Posts of the over 6100 posts in the United States and abroad, receive this distinction. All American status is meant to recognize outstanding VFW posts and is based on participation in VFW Programs as well as membership gains by Posts, Districts and Departments. Cochrane Buffalo City VFW Post 10406, for the first time since its charter in 1974, has been designated an All-American Post for the program years of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The post is presented with a permanent post streamer for our flag, certificate of award from the National Commander, recognition nationwide in the VFW magazine, newspapers, and state and national conventions and websites. Our local post members are able to wear and display the All-American pin and the post Commander and Quartermaster are awarded the distinctive red, white and blue All-American hat, while representing our post and members. To achieve this award a post must successfully participate in various VFW Programs, such as Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen, National Citizenship Education Teacher Award, Buddy Poppy distribution, National Military Services fundraiser, National Veterans Service, and exceed 100% of its membership total. The top 25 posts that meet all the requirements are then scored on membership gains in excess of 100%. Along with a very successful completion of our core programs, VFW Post 10406 gained 15 new members which set us at 111.53% membership and placed us divisionally in 14th place in the nation. Our post in Cochrane WI, is one of the most active in the state with members of all ages who enjoy each other’s comradeship during our events. Our post is supported by a very active Auxiliary, who like the VFW welcomes all new member and with our expanding membership of Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, the veterans assigned to modern day Korea and other eligible areas, we have an even younger generation leading the way for our veterans.
